As the historical floodwaters from Hurricane Harvey begin to recede, one of our country's largest relief efforts will begin. Here at ABC6/FOX 28, we are joining our sister stations around the country and teaming up with the Salvation Army as part of "Standing Strong for Texas." Monetary donations will go to the hardest hit areas of Harvey to buy food, water, clothing and provide shelter.

On September 1st , you can donate on our website or bring a check (no cash please) to the station at 1261 Dublin Rd.

Major Debra Ashcraft says the best way to help victims of Harvey is monetary donations. All donations will go to help people in the hardest hit areas. One example will be keeping the Salvation Army mobile food trucks going.

Right now there are 70 mobile kitchens that are the area right now. They are providing thousands of meals a day to first responders and victims of Harvey.

"A donation of $10 will provide meals for the whole day for someone a gift of $30 will provide a box of staple food and clean up kits." said Major Ashcraft.

A donation of $500 will allow one of the mobile kitchens to operate all day. In addition to supplying food and water, the Salvation Army will be there for the emotional effects of a catastrophic storm like Harvey.

"People at these times, they need someone to listen and they need someone to stand ready to pray with them.”

Additionally, Sinclair Broadcast Group will match total viewer donations collected up to $100,000.
