Student with gun arrested at Walnut Ridge High School, police searching for 2 suspects

Columbus Police were called to Walnut Ridge High School after a student was found to have a weapon (WSYX/WTTE)

Police say a safety drill at a Columbus high school turned into a lockdown when a gun was found on a student.

During the drill, police say the Walnut Ridge principal was alerted a student might have a weapon. They say he approached that student, and a gun and two magazines were found in a backpack.

Columbus Police were called to the scene, and the student was arrested. The school was put on temporary lockdown until officials were able to make sure the area was secure.

Police say they are looking for two more suspects in connection with the case.

Walnut Ridge's football game against South was cancelled.
