Surveillance video shows Good Samaritans try to stop robbery suspect
A robbery suspect holds-up a convenience store twice in 24 hours. Surveillance video shows a white man in his twenties dressed in a black ball cap and gray tee-shirt enter the store and demand money. Then a Good Samaritan who was a customer buying something at the counter stepped in.
Sgt. Bill Duffer, a detective with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the Turkey Hill in Urbancrest on Sunday morning and then again on Monday around 10:30 am.
Surveillance video from the store show the robbery unfold.
"The Good Samaritan, the customer that was standing next to him realizes what is going on, that it is a robbery and grabs the individual. He tries to get ahold of him and grabs him around the shoulders and around the neck. They wrestle and knock some things over in the store but then he is able to get away from the individual and a second customer that was in the store also jumped in and tried to hold the guy down."
Duffer said it was good the men tried to stop the robber, but he doesn't want people do put themselves in harm's way. "He could have had a gun on him. We are not sure if he was armed , he could have pulled the fire arm and injured or shot at the individuals that tried to stop him. What's best a lot of times if you could try to see where he ran to , especially if he jumps into a car. Try to get the license plate or get full license plate of the car , maybe pull out your cell phone and grab a picture of the car he gets into," said Duffer.
Deputies said they brought in canines and searched for the suspect who left the store on foot but he is still on the loose. Investigators said the robber dropped the money he demanded from the clerk during the scuffle.
