Friends of Ginger Ballard gathered at Chestnut Ridge Mountain Bike Trail in Canal Winchester Monday evening to dedicate a maple tree planted in her honor.

Ballard, a postmaster, was fatally shot in a northwest Columbus apartment complex parking lot December 23, 2017.

Postal manager Lance Herrera was also gunned down inside the Dublin post office that same day.

Ballard's mountain biking team says she was a great friend who loved riding her mountain bike.

Now, they said each time they ride the trails in the scenic park, they'll think of their friend taken too soon.

"We just found a time where all of us who were members of the team can get together, and gather around the tree and share our memories of Ginger" said Ballard's friend J.D. Kimple.
