Two accused of murdering Franklinton man with rifle he was trying to sell
A Franklinton man who thought he was going to sell an assault-style rifle was murdered with his own gun, according to court documents.
Larry Eugene Dayton, 59, was found dead in his Wisconsin Avenue home Saturday night after police got a call about a shooting. Investigators say Scott Salyer, 28, and Meagan Purks, 18 went to the home because Salyer was interested in buying the rifle. Salyer then loaded it, pointed it at the victim, demanded money, and shot him, according to police.
The pair were arrested around 9:00 am Sunday near Mound and Woodbury Street in west Columbus, and both were charged with murder.
Salyer is now being held on a $1.5 million bond after an arraignment Monday morning. Purks was given a $25,000 bond.
