Two people were seriously injured after a car driven by an allegedly impaired driver collided head-on with a school bus on Tuesday afternoon, deputies told the Bellefontaine Examiner.

James Johnson, 38, was traveling southbound on US Route 68 near Township Road 190 Tuesday afternoon when he went left of center and struck the Urbana City School bus, deputies told the Examiner.

The bus driver, David Deskins of Urbana, and an aide, Brooke Perry of Urbana, were the only people on the bus, according to the Superintendent of Madison-Champaign Educational Service Center.

Perry was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Examiner reports Johnson, the driver of the car, was flown to OSU Wexner Medical Center.

Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene. U.S. 68 was closed for hours while the accident scene was cleared.

*CORRECTION: An original version of this story reported Perry was a passenger in the car. That is incorrect, we apologize for the mistake.*
