Former Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott announced he will be running for the Ohio 12th District Congressional seat Thursday.

The seat is currently held by Representative Pat Tiberi (R-OH 12th District). Tiberi announced he will resign before the end of January.

Scott said he wants to take the same passion he has had for law enforcement and apply it to Congress.

"I will get laws passed that put our families and our communities first," said Scott. "Unfortunately, we have all seen too many Washington politicians who are more concerned with serving themselves than serving the public."

Scott said as America faces issues such as health care costs, proven leadership is needed.

"To the people of 12 district, let your concerns be my concerns. Rest easier knowing that I’m fighting for you, your family, and the future of America with unwavering commitment every day." he said.

Scott said he will be running as a Democrat.
