Girl, 12, suing to legalize medical marijuana nationwide
A 12-year-old girl who uses medical marijuana to control her epilepsy is suing U.S. Attorney Jeff Sessions to legalize medical marijuana nationwide.
Alexis Bortell and her family moved to Colorado to access medical marijuana. Botrell told KDVR, "a drop of THC twice a day has kept her seizure free for two and a half years."
She says the federal law restricting marijuana use prevents her from returning back to Texas.
"I have intractable epilepsy so I have seizures that traditional medications wouldn't really help... I would like to be able to visit my grandparents without risking being taken to a foster home," Bortell says.
A marijuana advocacy group, a military vet, former Denver Broncos player, Marvin Washington, and another child have all joined the suit.
The federal government lost its first motion to have the case dismissed.
