A mother just sat down to have dinner with her two-year-old daughter when bullets started flying through their West Palm Beach apartment. Both made it out alive and a suspect is in custody.

The shooting happened Wednesday morning at the Royal Poinciana Apartments on North Haverhill Road.

Police arrested 24-year-old Shakendra Katrell Chaney on two counts of attempted first degree murder with a firearm and two counts of throwing/shooting a deadly missile into an occupied dwelling.

According to the report, police said Chaney drove up to one of the units in a blue Mazda and opened fire through the living room window of the mother's apartment.

The mother told police she looked out the window and saw the car pull up with Chaney at the wheel and another woman in the passenger seat. The mother said she saw Chaney pull out a gun and point it toward her. The woman said she saw two muzzle flashes and immediately grabbed her young daughter to shield her from the gunfire. The mother said she heard four gunshots. According to the report, police found three shell casings and bullet holes in the apartment living room.

Police said the mother had reported to police that Chaney and the passenger vandalized her apartment prior to the shooting.

Chaney is due in court Friday morning.
