COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — A West Columbus car lot owner asking for the public’s help to identify a suspected thief who broke into his business last week.
“Ask everybody who knows this guy, to help me find this guy,” said Mamadou Barry, owner of O’Barry’s Auto Sales on West Broad Street.
Barry says the suspect was captured on security cameras on June 22nd, walking around the locked lot looking for stuff to steal.
“He jumped the fence,” said Barry, “came inside my lot.”
The alleged crook was captured on camera yanking a battery from a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The alleged crook was apparently not prepared for the job, cameras show him leave the lot and return a few minutes later with a tool to remove the power cell from the vehicle.
“He’s stupid, he’s stupid,” said Barry, “He dropped the brand-new tool.”
Barry now planning to hand over the left behind evidence to police.
The car lot owner says it’s the fifth time in a year, he’s been targeted by crooks.
“Especially during the coronavirus, business is down, I don’t know what to do,” said Barry.
Columbus Police is now investigating the theft, anyone with information is asked to call 614-645-1439 or email cwaddle@columbuspolice.org.
