Ohio State's second-ranked wrestlers handle Minnesota in the Schott

COLUMBUS -- The second-ranked Ohio State University wrestling team (9-0, 4-0 Big Ten) raced to a 20-0 edge by the break before tacking on 11 more team points in the evening's second half of matches to ultimately defeat No. 14 Minnesota 4-2, 1-1 Big Ten) by a final tally of 31-7.

Ohio State's first six wrestlers to take the mat Friday night entered with unblemished season records and five would walk off the mat with those perfect marks intact.

The evening's festivities got rolling at 184 pounds, an opening bout which saw Ohio State's Myles Martin take down his Gopher competitor four times in the first period. He would go on to add four more takedowns by the end of his 18-7 major decision. It marks the 17th time in 19 victories (19-0) in which Martin has earned bonus points.

Next up was Kollin Moore seizing win number 15 of the year, grinding out a 7-4 decision over Bobby Steveson at 197 pounds. Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder followed, racking up 11 takedowns en route to a 24-9 tech fall

The Buckeye wins kept coming as action rolled over to the lightweights. Fifth-year Nathan Tomasello, the top-ranked 125-pounder in the country, was pitted against No. 4 Ethan Lizak in the event's marquee match-up. Tomasello showed no signs off rust after making his season debut only seven days ago following three months of injury rehab. Not only was he victorious in the Top-5 clash, but he dominated with an 18-3 tech fall. A slow start resulted in a slim 2-0 edge entering the second period. Tomasello turned it up a notch in the second, however, electing to start in the neutral position and backing it up with three takedowns and a four-point nearfall. Tomasello kept the pedal to the metal in the final frame, closing it out before the clock hit 0:00 with a pair of takedowns to trigger the tech fall.
