The Football Fever: Meyer with great respect for former colleague DJ Durkin

COLUMBUS -- Ask Urban Meyer about longtime friend and once coaching ally and you'll get a long list of compliments of Saturday's opponent, Maryland head coach DJ Durkin.

"He's probably among the top two or three we've ever had on our staff," Meyer told reporters Monday. "He was a GA with me at Bowling Green and I tried to make him a full-time coach at 21 years old."

Durkin's Maryland Terrapins are 3-1 on the season as they approach a road trip to Columbus this weekend. Kickoff is set for 4 pm Saturday on FOX-28.

"They are a formidable opponent and there is so much DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia) loyalty now,'' added Meyer.

Maryland boasts road wins over Texas and Minnesota though they are now playing with their once-third string quarterback thanks to injury.

Ohio State is 9th in the Coaches Poll this week and 10th in the Associated Press rankings.
