Mike McCarthy is a hometown guy and an award-winning General Assignment Reporter with ABC 6 & FOX 28.
He’s been waking up way too early for the last 10 years as a part of the Good Day Columbus team.
Mike graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, where he was a student ambassador. He also worked as a reporter, anchor, and producer for radio and television at WOUB.
Mike returned to Central Ohio after reporting for three years in East Tennessee. He began his career as a multimedia journalist with WVLT in Knoxville. His early work was honored by the Tennessee Associated Press
He’s from Marysville, and he’s grateful to live there now. His grandparents owned and operated McCarthy Pharmacy, which was known locally for its soda fountain and five-cent coffee until the 1990s. He was the salutatorian of his class at Marysville High School.
During his time with ABC 6 & FOX 28, Mike has won 25 Emmy Awards. The Ohio Associated Press has awarded him multiple honors, including "Best TV Reporter" in 2012 and runner-up in 2014. He also has been ranked among the top solo video journalists in the country by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). Mike has been featured on Fox News, CNN, and HLN.
He and his wife grew up just down the street from each other, and they first met on an elementary school bus.
When he’s not gathering the news or attending soccer games for his two sons, he enjoys movies, musical theater, and magic.
